Vintage Fabric Christmas Trees - Tutorial - Supply Guide

If handmade Christmas décor brings you as much joy as it brings me, you’re going to love this DIY vintage fabric Christmas tree tutorial. I absolutely adore the magic of Christmas—especially the cozy, charming, and aesthetic decorations. Every year, I play with new designs inspired by fashion, interiors, and beloved holiday traditions.

Vintage fabric Christmas trees take a bit of patience to create, but they reward you with ornaments you can enjoy year after year—and without the worry of broken glass!

With this guide, you’ll receive a full materials list along with a YouTube tutorial packed with helpful tips and tricks to make these beautiful trees. You can easily customize the look by using different fabric prints and colors, and by creating multiple tree sizes with the pattern guide available on my website, linked here.

List Of Supplies:

  • Choice of fabrics - If you quilt or sew in general, now is a great time to dig through your craft scraps! I stuck to only lightweight woven fabric that you would use for quilting and lighter weight garments. If you don't sew or need more options I recommend shopping your local quilt store for options. I purchased a 3/4 yard of each fabric color I wanted to use for my trees. I made sure to have at least 3 different fabric for the Christmas trees to create enough visual interest.
  • Assorment Of Tinsel & Ribbons - Have a variety of small tinsel glitter garland or silk ribbons on hand for the bows for the ends of each point on the tree. Here is the link to my favorite Tinsel Garland. Here are the links to my favorite 7mm silk ribbons. PinkBlue.
  • Glass Beads - These are for the top of the Christmas Tree Stars. This is a fun way to get creative with beads and color.
  • Poly-fil - This is to stuff the trees with.
  • Hand Sewing Needles
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine - If you're looking for something basic but sturdy that will do the job for someone getting into sewing, Singer has a great starter option to get you started. It also offers a button hole and zig-zag stitch types that I use often for home sewing projects and to sew apparel!
  • Sewing Needles - These are the universal sewing needles I order in bulk to have on hand at all times. I use these for everything and having a lot on hand has saved me in a pinch more than I can count. I cannot tell you how many times having these on hand have bailed me out to finish a late night sewing project or craft!
  • Iron & Ironing Board - Here is the similar model of the Rowenta iron I've had for the past 7 years. So far it's still holding up well and I use it a lot each week. Regarding ironing boards, I just use the link to find something that works for your space and home. Unless you plan on spending big money, they are all pretty standard and get the job done. :)
